Speak up for the Martuwarra – before it’s too late

The Martuwarra-Fitzroy River is one of Australia’s most important living rivers.

Australia has one of the highest animal extinction rates in the world and the Martuwarra is the last global stronghold for critically endangered freshwater sawfish.

Protecting precious places like the Martuwarra is essential if Australia is to halt extinctions and meet its commitment to protect 30% of land by 2030.

RIGHT NOW, THE RIVER IS UNDER THREAT.

The WA government has released a draft water plan for the Martuwarra catchment and thirsty industries like large-scale irrigation and fracking are pushing to take more water.

This water plan is a critical opportunity to secure stronger protections for the Martuwarra and the species, communities and cultures that depend on it.

The government is accepting submissions – but only until 5pm Tuesday 30 June.
